Author Spotlight: Madilynn Dale

  • a fantastic Indie author of fantasy, romance, and paranormal stories

Readers, let’s give a good, hearty welcome to this week’s guest!

Madilynn Dale is an author based out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, U.S. She writes fantasy, romance, and paranormal pieces primarily. She spends most of her day with her son, tending to her pets, and writing.

Madilynn holds degrees in several areas. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from Southern Nazarene University, located in Oklahoma. She also has an Associates of Science degree in Physical Therapy Assistant Sciences from Oklahoma City Community College. She is licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in Oklahoma and works as a PRN therapist.

Madilynn’s hobbies, when not writing, include reading, baking, crafting, hiking, and horseback riding. She loves to travel and explore. One day she hopes to expand her travels and see the world, but in the meantime, you will find her working on her next novel. She will most likely have coffee and some form of chocolate with her as she writes.

Madilynn, thanks for agreeing to be here today. Most interviews start off with the boring stuff, but I know what readers REALLY want to know.

If you could have any pet (real/fantasy/no-allergies/no worries about feeding it) what would it be?

A dragon or a unicorn. That would be amazing and they would be the best pets ever. They could also be used as weapons if needed to protect me.

Classic choices! Although, I hope you never need them to protect you.

What do you write? And how did you get started?

I write a mix of fantasy, paranormal, romance, and adventure. I had a dream that I decided to write out which led to a book. The story continued and kept growing and I couldn’t decline the characters in my head from putting their story out there.

I know that feeling! *eyes her first full manuscript*

What do you like to read?

I love reading fantasy stories that have a bit of romance in them with amazing plot twists. I have been hooked recently with the series by Sarah J Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses. Her Throne of Glass series is one of my all time favorites.

You’re far from alone with loving that series!

Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice that doesn’t work for you.

Write every day.

I can’t make that work. My life is a bit hectic as a stay-at-home parent to a three year old. He distracts me a lot and there are times where he will let me have peace to write but sometimes that doesn’t happen, and I am too tired to stay up late at night to try and write. I tend to do a writing spree on the days I can get time to write or my energy levels are higher.

Life and family definitely come first! I dream of being able to write in sprees, though.

Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice that they can pry out of your cold, dead hands.

Edit, edit, and then edit again.

It doesn’t have to be perfect but it can be as close as possible.

Well said.

What surprised you most when learning to craft your books?

I learned that it’s not as easy as it appears, and that marketing can be difficult. I also learned that the results
are 100% worth the chaos writing may cause at times.

Shameless Self-Promotion time!
