Author Spotlight: J.A. Duxbury

  • a writer of dreams and older than she looks

Readers, let’s give a good, hearty welcome to this week’s guest!

J A has been writing since she was 10. Her chosen genre is science fiction, however, as she writes from her dreams, sometimes science fiction is not what is produced. She lives in Western Australia and loves to go away in her caravan. She and her partner have yet to take their Siberian cats with them.

J A, thanks for agreeing to be here today. Most interviews start off with the boring stuff, but I know what readers REALLY want to know.

If you could have any pet (real/fantasy/no-allergies/no worries about feeding it) what would it be?

Oh, this is a hard question – real would be a Black Panther, fantasy is a toss-up between a dragon, a Pegasus, and a gryphon. If we’re going dinosaur, it would be a velociraptor.

I love all of your selections!!

What do you write? And how did you get started?

I write from my dreams and although I started when I was around 10 years old, I had a hiatus from writing for about 20 years and got back into it by writing fan fiction for friends.

I’ve definitely taken inspiration from my dreams. So glad you found your way back to your writing!

What do you like to read?

I prefer to read science fiction and fantasy, but I also like thrillers and murder. Drama is tucked in there, too.

An excellent selection

Plan

Plan your work. Plan your story. Follow a schedule. None of that works for me.

Oh! Sounds like you’re a true pantser.

Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice that works for you

Write every day.

The advice that works for me is to write every day. Write anything. Just keep writing.

I wish I could be that consistent!

Heart of Deception (Consequences: Book 1)

Welcome To The Kingdom Of Albermarle

The precious Heart of Radiance, the ultimate object of interest in the eyes of a professional thief, but in the eyes of Marek Janosik, it’s an easy steal. However, Marek’s luck changes, and he’s caught by Prince Hector of Albermarle and given the choice to help the Prince uncover a secret that could destroy the royal family of Albermarle and put them under the control of the British Royal Family.

However, the tables are turned and Marek is forced into stealing from the kingdom he was hired by. Trapped by the consequences of unfair blackmail, Marek must now truly make his decision and choose to betray the trust of Prince Hector and the royal family, or uncover darker secrets of the contacts digging him deeper into a hole he can’t climb out of.

Legacy of Risks (Consequences: Book 2)

Once a thief, Now a hero!

Now hailed as a hero in the kingdom of Albermarle, Marek Jasoneke’s fate has altered his life drastically, but not everything can go in favor of a thief-turned-hero. After the injuries sustained in “Heart Of Deception” Marek is confined to a wheelchair; stuck between the pressures of immobility. To aid an investigation, Marek has no choice but to revert to his birth name, Marc Bouchard, and has to isolate himself from the Jasonek alias, before the next journey brings him and the royal family to Paris, where the pressure increases just as well as the danger.

Dark Dimensions (Clans in Conflict: Book 1)

Troy knew his mission, and his loyalty brought everyone’s trust around him. A battle-master who had never encountered a dimension where vampires did NOT exist, his experiences in traveling through parallel dimensions spanned for over a decade. His travels lead up to an incident that entraps him in a citadel stronghold. Dark Dimensions blends the dark intrigue of vampire lore with the adventure of an ambitious Sci-Fi thriller as we follow the journey of a long-time dimensional traveler, encountering dangerous and powerful vampires who discover that he is more than what he appears to be.
