- USA Today Bestselling Supernatural Suspense Author & Editor-in-chief of Novel Concept Publishing, Supernatural fanatic, mother, wife, and cube grunt. Downtime… now that’s an alien concept.
Readers, thanks for checking out another Author Spotlight Interview. Let’s give a good, hearty welcome to this week’s guest!

J.E. Taylor publishes supernatural suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance that will capture your imagination in ways that terrify and tantalize at the same time.
She lives at the base of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and during the winter you might find her tooling around on her snow mobile with her husband and during the summer months can be found kayaking on the shores of southern Maine.
J.E., thanks for agreeing to be here today. Most author spotlight interviews start off with the boring stuff, but I know what readers REALLY want to know.
If you could have any pet (real/fantasy/no-allergies/no worries about feeding it) what would it be?
A wolf. I love wolves. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing one up close and have a bucket list item to go to the wolf preserve in New York to actually get to see them in their own habitat and possibly have a real close encounter.
Such lovely animals, and so family oriented.
What do you write? And how did you get started?
I started with psychological erotic thrillers and horror and moved into FBI thrillers with a supernatural twist and then morphed into the urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres.
I wrote all through high school and college and then set it aside to raise a family. I have done technical writing for at least twenty-five years on and off at the day job. During a period where I supervised, I wasn’t writing, and it drove me batty enough to complain while we were driving on a family trip.
My daughter, God bless her, asked me if I could do anything what would it be. I didn’t even hesitate to think about that question. My answer was: write and publish a book. Then she asked why don’t I. Well, there really was no answer to that, so I did. And fourteen years and sixty-one books later, here I am.
I’m always happy when I hear about supportive families. And wow! That’s a lot of books. So glad it’s working for you.
What do you like to read?
Romance, anything that captures and holds my attention, really. If it’s a good story that is well written, I devour it.
I’ve been binging romances lately, myself. But, yes!
Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice that doesn’t work for you
Plot your stories out.
I find plotting takes the joy out of writing. I can take someone else’s plot and write, but to sit down and plot out an entire story or series really sucks the fun out of writing for me.
Ahhh. You’re one of ‘those’. I find those who can write without a direction of their own fascinating!

Finish the story before you edit.
Otherwise, you’ll likely never finish if you are too consumed with making the first draft perfect.
It’s one of the many temptations writers are forced to resist!
Shameless Self-Promotion time!
Season of the Dragon (Full Trilogy #1-3)
Monsters, trust issues, betrayal, and a near-death experience.
What else could go wrong?

The end of life as we knew it didn’t come with a nuclear blast. It didn’t come with the deadly impact of a hurdling asteroid. No. It came in a wave of illness that swept the world with fear, and in our quarantined silence, the monsters awoke.
Leviathans, serpent kings, and dragons came forth from the bowels of the Earth. The season of the dragon began with fire and fury and ended with a new world order. One in which these giant terrorists held all the power.
When Mikhail St. Clare betrays the monsters by saving me from death at their claws, I cannot trust the last remaining dragon shifter. Not when humankind’s survival is at stake, and he had a hand in our near extinction.
The only thing we seem to agree on is our desire to annihilate the leviathans and unseat the Serpent King. Our personal futures depend on ridding the earth of these murderous overlords.
We thought crossing the leviathan-patrolled city where every corner hides a hideous death was our most lethal hurdle. But building a bomb large enough to wipe out an entire species carries its own insane levels of danger.
Wicked Heart (Shades of Night #1)

Waking up to blood-smeared walls certainly does not instill calm. Quite the opposite, considering I had locked my house up tight with deadbolts, sigils, and safety spells to ward away evil.
And I went to bed alone.
With no memory of a struggle and no signs of a dead body, there’s only one logical conclusion. One of the demons we hunt at The Monster Defense Agency broke into my home.
My insatiable cravings clue me into exactly what I’m dealing with, and now I need to track the bastard down and fillet his ass.
Otherwise, my life will be forfeited, and I will become the hunted.
Crooked Soul (Shades of Night #2)

Escaping from captivity brings its own special challenges. Like dealing with PTSD, along with major trust issues.
When an ancient vampire arrives from overseas, she comes with baggage from a past long before I was born. And she is hell-bent on revenge.
Not only are we trying to dodge the monsters, but we are back on the radar of the Monster Defense Agency, and they are pissed.
If Robby and I can’t get our shit together, either the MDA or the master of the vampire who nearly destroyed us will finish the job.
Young Blood (Shades of Night – Prequel)

Duty and fate collide when a cocky young alpha finds his forbidden mate.
Robby Young never anticipated meeting his true soul mate on the first day at the Monster Defense Academy, especially considering relationships with other members of the agency are strictly prohibited.
When that girl ends up listed as his partner, Robby has to muzzle his wolf to keep her safe.
If he falls prey to his desires and crosses the line his father set, he’ll sentence his partner to a position in front of the firing squad.
