Author Spotlight: Naomi Valkyrie

It’s a December Author Spotlight Flood! Clearing out my backlog and getting these authors into the spotlight.

  • an Autistic Author of Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy, Firebrand Provocateur, and Book Dragon

Readers, thanks for checking out another Author Spotlight Interview. Let’s give a good, hearty welcome to this week’s guest!

Naomi Valkyrie, often called a Firebrand Provocateur, brings her unique Autistic perspectives and curiosities to life by weaving tales of deep connection, mystery, and romance. She is inspired by being able to spontaneously create a thought that takes on a life of its own, opening up new adventures for her readers.

The Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy realms are particular areas of interest for Naomi as they allow for the vast exploration of magic, adventure, and the impossible while creating diverse characters that her readers connect with on an emotional level.

When she isn’t attending to familial connections, Naomi loves a dark, comfy reading space surrounded by the symbolism of her spiritual archetypes and her daemon/familiars, while she sips her Starbucks tea and immerses herself in imagination.

Naomi, thanks for agreeing to be here today. Most author spotlight interviews start off with the boring stuff, but I know what readers REALLY want to know.

If you could have any pet (real/fantasy/no-allergies/no worries about feeding it) what would it be?

I’ve had various types of pets over the years (cats, dogs, parakeets, ducks, geese, hamsters, rabbits, octopus, salt & freshwater fish, a cow, …) so I’ve gotten to experience a wide range of animals in real life. I’m enjoying being pet-free at the moment. Raising kids is enough excitement.

It would be more friendship than pet but speaking from a fantasy/mythological standpoint, I think it would be amazing to be friends with a benevolent kitsune. They are wise and magically powerful.

What a great menagerie! Plus, who wouldn’t love a friendly kitsune?

What do you write? And how did you get started?

I write Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy. After some health issues forced me to retire from doing massage therapy, I decided to take up writing since I had more time available.

Massage therapy can be so hard on the body! I’m so glad you found your way to writing.

What do you like to read?

M/M Romance, any subgenre!

Fun!

Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice that doesn’t work for you

The advice!

Pretty much 98% of the commonly accepted writing advice doesn’t work for me. Being neurodivergent, I have to create my own methods and systems that work with my brain style.

Well, there’s plenty of conflicting advice, so some might work for you. But I’m so glad you’ve found what works for you.

Name one commonly accepted piece of writing advice they can pry out of your cold, dead hands

Use what works for you.

Take the advice that fits and ignore the rest because there is no “right” way to write.

So true.

Shameless Self-Promotion time!

Life is Hell (5 books)

(book 1)

All I wanted was a break.

No more killing. No more vengeance.

I thought peace was within my grasp…

I’m Delilah Hawthorne, a vengeance demon, tired of killing, and in dire need of a vacation.
I thought I’d found peace in the tiny town of Juniper Lake, but apparently, fate has other plans.
Between three conniving witches hellbent on murder, and a hot, but nosy sheriff who needs to mind his own business, it looks like the old saying is true – there really is no rest for the wicked.

House Valdis (2 books)

When Xenobia arrived on Earth seven years ago she was given an opportunity to start over. Maggie, her best friend, is the only one who knows what she really is. Walking in on Maggie being beaten, Xen makes a split-second decision that begins a series of events which threaten to expose her true nature, and her heart.

With danger looming, Xen is required to face her trust issues and self-doubt in order to traverse the unexpected world she finds herself mixed up in. She must decide whether the lives of her chosen family are worth exposing her secret, and whether she is willing to accept her new role and the responsibility that comes with it.

The Rise of House Valdis is an Urban Fantasy – Paranormal Romance (with a splash of Science Fiction) mashup that features a murdering alien trying to lay low, a moody shifter, a vampire with a troubled past, a house full of companions who end up with superpowers they can’t control, and LGBTQ relationship dynamics.

The Widow

A year after her husband’s death, Vashti grows weary of the grief and loneliness that plagues her. Forcing herself to leave the sanctuary of her mansion, she ventures into town. Although Vashti intends to maintain her privacy, she finds herself compelled to take in a recently single college student.

When Absalom’s girlfriend is caught cheating, he ends up with no place to go. Vashti’s offer of housing in exchange for companionship seems heaven sent, even if it does come with a strangely specific contract.

Things are going well for both Vashti and Absalom until his friend Simeon enters the picture. With his entrance into their lives he brings unwanted drama with him. The privacy Vashti has worked so hard to protect is suddenly endangered, and Absalom sees everything he’s built with Vashti begin to crumble.

When lives are threatened, will Vashti’s solution to the problem alter the course of their lives forever?

Aberration

It isn’t natural for a seventeen-year-old girl to be without a social life, but there isn’t much natural about me anymore.
I, Anyanka Truman, am an aberration.

Two years ago, my life changed forever. Self-imposed exile seemed to be the only way to keep me safe from people who would use me as a lab rat, and from those who would hate my differences. Solitude became my new normal, the island my domain.

When new information connected to my condition is discovered, the ultimate betrayal is brought to light. Any peace I’d finally gained is shattered. Inevitable circumstances force me to trust outsiders, and I make the only decision I can…

We. End. This.
